Facility Technician

Job Summary:

You will perform the role of a technical subject matter expert, responsible for maintaining high equipment availability rates. You will execute preventive and predictive maintenance processes, rapidly resolve equipment breakdowns, and efficiently restore equipment to service. You will partner with other Target maintenance technicians to address sophisticated issues, ensure that the work quality provided by outside specialty contractors meets standards, optimize ammonia refrigeration equipment with building leaders, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate urgency. You will also work with others to analyze the Root Cause of equipment failures and fix systemic issues using diagnostic tools. Proficient knowledge of system control logic and troubleshooting techniques will be critical. Moreover, you will function as a technical trainer, collaborating with other maintenance technicians to develop new skills. It is essential to remember that job duties may be tailored according to the demands of the business.

Roles and Duties:

• Be able to work with various types of ammonia refrigeration systems, including those used in industrial or commercial settings
• Involve oneself in all elements of Target's Process Safety Management endeavor (PSM) to ensure safety protocols are followed
• Complete preventive maintenance
• Complete corrective maintenance
• To correct a malfunctioning system, it may be necessary to manage, reset, repair, or exchange the components that are causing the issues
• Maintaining machinery involves a process that entails removing any unwanted elements, lubricating gears and joints, and adding a fresh coat of paint to protect against wear and tear
• Perform diagnostic procedures on power distribution systems, lighting systems, branch circuits, transformers, and wiring methods to ascertain the source of the problem
• Schedule regular maintenance on facility machinery, including powered industrial trucks, HVAC units, air compressors and dryers, and balers, to keep them in optimal working condition
• A schematic diagram consists of several basic elements, such as the power source, ground, symbols representing components, wires or lines that connect components, and annotations and notes. Each element plays a vital role in describing the circuit's structure and connection of components
• Establish communication protocols with fellow technicians to ensure seamless coordination during emergency repairs of critical assets
• Instruct other maintenance personnel on technical skills and serve as the lead trainer for Maintenance Technician Trainees
• Use handheld devices and mobile asset management systems to efficiently generate and close Work Orders, accurately documenting key metrics such as labor hours, equipment downtime, issue identification, root cause analysis, and spare parts usage
• Foster a culture of trust by honoring commitments and maintaining confidentiality
• Put into practice, effective safety measures such as Lock Out/Tag Out or Arc Flash and PPE while dealing with equipment to avoid accidents and injuries
• Potential to Achieve and Maintain a RETA CARO Accreditation

Physical Demands:

• Daily engagement in the routine actions of bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching, both above and below the waist
• Ensuring the safety of oneself while climbing up and down ladders, gangways, and stairs, and while working on platforms and equipment at significant heights
• Engaging in non-stop mobility throughout and beyond the location for extended periods of up to 10-12 hours per work shift
• Manage the relocation of packages and products that weigh around 49 pounds through manual labor
• Undertaking recurring motions that could involve the fingers, hands, or wrists
• A considerable span invested in employing handheld devices or computer add-ons, such as mice, keyboards, measuring gadgets, and infrared thermometers
• Handling and operating machinery, bench power tools, motor vehicles, and/or heavy equipment, including the use of Powered Industrial Trucks with pedals, tillers, and switches
• The usage of traditional unpowered tools such as wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers and other hand-held mechanical equipment
• The work environment could contain small or enclosed spaces, dust, poor air quality, unpleasant smells, outside elements, extreme temperatures, excessive noise levels, vibrations, prolonged standing on firm concrete surfaces, and floors that are wet or uneven

Qualifications:

• Well-versed in PC operations with versatile ability to manage mobile applications on portable devices
• For efficient and safe installation, maintenance and repair work, an understanding of wiring diagrams, symbols, and electrical measuring is crucial
• My years of experience in different fields have allowed me to develop expertise in various areas, making me a versatile and well-rounded professional:
• Another important aspect of preventive/predictive maintenance procedures is communication among staff and management. This includes developing clear procedures, documenting all maintenance activities, and ensuring that all employees are trained on the proper operation and maintenance of the system
• Blueprint and schematic reading requires attention to detail and the ability to visualise 3D images from 2D drawings, making it an important skill for many professions including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work
• Work order management
• Industrial electrical engineers are responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems in industrial facilities
• Programming a PLC requires a deep understanding of the underlying hardware and electrical systems, as well as a familiarity with programming languages and algorithms
• The NEC also covers the use of electrical equipment in hazardous locations, such as explosive or flammable environments
• The IIAR's mission is to support the safe and sustainable use of ammonia in refrigeration and other industrial applications
• RETA encourages its members to stay up-to-date on the latest technologies and best practices in the field of refrigeration
• A degree from a technical or community college with specialized study in Mechanical/Electrical fields and accredited industrial maintenance certifications involving training in Industrial Networks, Robotics, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Machine Logic
• Someone with an in-depth understanding of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems, backed by four years of practical experience.
• Earning a CARO and/or CIRO certification can make a significant difference in your salary and career advancement opportunities.
