Electrical Maintenance Technician

Job Summary:

Your role as a technical subject matter expert will be crucial in maintaining high equipment availability rates. You will be responsible for implementing preventive and predictive maintenance processes and swiftly responding to equipment breakdowns to restore equipment to service. You will work alongside other maintenance technicians to resolve complex issues, validate the work quality provided by external specialty contractors, optimize ammonia refrigeration systems with building leaders, manage multiple projects, and operate with a sense of urgency. You will also collaborate with others to identify the root cause of equipment failures and address underlying issues through meticulous observation and diagnostic tools. Expert knowledge of system control logic and troubleshooting techniques will be essential. In addition, you will serve as a technical trainer for other maintenance technicians, supporting them in acquiring new skill sets. It is important to note that job duties may be subject to change based on business requirements.

Roles and Duties:

• Ensure proper functioning of Ammonia Refrigeration Equipment, which includes checking all electrical and mechanical aspects, such as evaporators, compressors, condensers, vessel packages or piping systems
• Engage in every facet of Target's Process Safety Management initiative (PSM) to ensure safe and secure procedures
• Complete preventive maintenance
• Complete corrective maintenance
• To manage a malfunctioning system, we can either manipulate, restore, fix, or substitute its parts
• The process of maintaining machinery involves the steps of getting rid of any dirt or grime, applying oil or grease, and using a fresh layer of paint
• Analyze and resolve issues with power distribution systems that include branch circuits, lighting systems, and transformers which operate within 480V range
• Conduct regular upkeep on facility machinery (such as elevating work platforms, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, compressors and dehumidifiers, and waste compactors) to prevent malfunctions
• Understanding the Basics of Electrical and Electronic Schematic Diagrams
• Devise schedules and task lists with fellow technicians for promptly addressing emergency repairs of critical assets, ensuring proper allocation of resources
• Provide instruction on technical skills to other maintenance personnel while serving as a mentor and educator for Maintenance Technician Trainees
• Use portable gadgets and mobile applications for asset management systems to generate and finalize Work Orders while providing suitable information such as labor hours, downtime, issue/cause/solution, and utilized parts
• Establish and nurture healthy relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and subordinates to promote a harmonious work environment
• Adhere to the correct safety protocol and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when maintaining machinery to reduce the risk of accidents, such as Lock Out/Tag Out and Arc Flash
• The Proficiency to Acquire and Sustain a RETA CARO Certification

Physical Demands:

• Engaging in the routine actions of bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching, both above and below the waist
• Achieving safe ascent and descent on ladders, gangways, and stairs, as well as working at considerable heights on platforms and equipment
• Remaining in constant motion, both within and outside the vicinity, for extended periods of time (up to 10-12 hours per work shift)
• Carry or relocate items, such as containers and boxes, weighing up to 49 pounds with ease
• Performing repetitive movements that could involve the fingers, wrists, or hands
• Valuable hours occupied with handheld devices or computer peripherals like mice, keyboards, measuring instruments, and temperature sensors
• The utilization of mechanical devices, workbench electric equipment, automotive transportation, and/or massive machinery, along with driving Powered Industrial Trucks using pedals, tillers, and switches
• The utilization of handheld mechanical devices including wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers and others
• The environment in which work is performed can entail limited or confined spaces, particulate matter, insufficient aeration, noxious or fragrant vapors, external factors, extreme thermal conditions, disruptive acoustics, reverberation, extended periods of standing on concrete, and damp or irregular terrain

Qualifications:

• Proficient in computer skills and adept at utilizing apps on portable gadgets
• Having a sound understanding of electrical measuring, symbols, and wiring diagrams is essential for any electrician or technician
• Experience with the following fields:
• Ammonia refrigeration systems are an essential part of the industrial process and require regular maintenance to ensure their optimal function. One of the most effective approaches to maintain these systems is through preventive/predictive maintenance procedures
• Reading and understanding blueprints and schematics is crucial in construction and engineering industries to ensure proper installation and functionality of various systems and structures
• Work order management
• The field of industrial electrical, controls, and electronics is concerned with the principles and applications of electrical engineering in the context of manufacturing, processing, and industrial facilities
• PLC programs are essentially sets of instructions that are programmed into a device in order to automate a particular process or system
• The National Electrical Code (NEC) is a comprehensive set of standards and guidelines established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for the safe installation of electrical wiring and equipment
• The IIAR is a globally recognized organization that specializes in the safe and efficient use of ammonia in refrigeration and other industrial applications
• The Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association (RETA) is an organization that focuses on advancing the field of refrigeration
• A diploma obtained from a technical or community college, along with accredited certifications in industrial maintenance such as Machine Logic, Robotics, Industrial Networks, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) with specialization in Electrical and Mechanical fields
• A professional with over four years of experience in the operation of an industrial ammonia refrigeration system.
• Being certified in CARO and/or CIRO is a valuable asset for any professional in the cybersecurity industry.
